ABOUT US

Located halfway between Richmond and Charlottesville on the James river in Goochland County, Elk Hill was founded by the late Buford Scott and the late James M. Ball, Jr. on a 350 acre estate donated by Mr. Scott. The campus has an educational and recreational facility, a vocational center, five cottages and a historic structure housing the administrative offices. Incorporated in 1970 as a private, non-profit, non-sectarian childcare facility, Elk Hill is governed by a 40 member board of trustees from across the Commonwealth of Virginia.

OUR PROGRAMS

Elk Hill serves youth through residential, day school, and group home programs; all three are designed to hold the youth accountable for their behaviors, promote emotional and physical wellness, and give them the tools they need to become positive, productive citizens.
